Did you try "refreshing" the option? eg turning on "Single click", select OK then go back in and turning "Double-click" to open back on? Although the behavior you describe is not "normal". Have you tried obtaining an updated mouse driver from the manufacturer's web site? What kind of mouse do you have?

Mac OS vs. Windows 95 questions
When single left-clicking my mouse does a double click very often. This is making using windows near-impossible. I am using a Microsoft serial mouse, with average click settings. Up till now, I have been using windows with this mouse since february, this has not occurred. Does anyone know what the problem could be.

As far as I can tell, there's no longer any difference here, though you can still hold down the mouse button to select from a menu if you want. the very useful alias-to-volume which allows me to put an alias of my HD in the Apple menu and access any file or application on my hard drive with a single click.

Something occurred to me as I started to point this out to a poster that attached a jpg image of their mouse control panel. The double click speed will effect the single click speed to the extent that the system has to wait till the double click time has expired to decide if you single clicked or double clicked.
